Precast Concrete Storm Shelters

Thank you for your interest in our Precast Concrete Storm Shelters all of which are certified to meet the National Storm Shelter Association Standard. Let us tell you a little bit about our company. We are a family owned business that has been in operation since 1962. Our President, Mike Vaughn, is a registered Professional Engineer licensed in 7 states. We manufacture utility structures that are rated for both heavy vehicle and aircraft loadings on a regular basis. We began producing Storm Shelters in 2002.

We are “Producer Members” of the National Storm Shelter Association (NSSA). The NSSA has worked for years to develop a standard for Storm Shelters to protect the public and our families. Recently, the NSSA Standard for storm shelters was adopted by FEMA into the International Code Council/National Storm Shelter Association 500 (ICC/NSSA) Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters. A lot of storm shelter suppliers have unverified claims. This code has made it where a consumer can feel comfortable knowing if they buy a Storm Shelter from an NSSA member that it meets the needed criteria. This is the criteria that was the requirement for the Storm Shelters installed in the Texas Panhandle Regional Planning Commission Grant Program and the South Plains Association of Governments Safe Room Rebate Program. The NSSA requires all shelter designs to be reviewed and approved by a 3rd party engineer. All of our shelter designs were reviewed by and approved by a 3rd party engineer and all of our Above Ground Shelters were inspected by this same engineer. You can read more about the NSSA at www.nssa.cc.

We build both Above Ground Storm Shelters and Below Ground Storm Shelters. We have chosen to only recommend Above Ground Shelters for several reasons. Shelters are only good if you can get into them safely, below ground shelters typically require stairs and hatches. Hatches are always hard to lift without them falling; imagine how hard it would be in extreme wind and rain. Stairs are difficult when dry. They can get wet and slippery and can be dangerous during a storm event; making it difficult to get into a shelter. We all face challenges as we get older and stairs become a hazard for all of us. We suggest our Above Ground Shelters for the safety of your entire family.

We have four standard models of Above Ground Shelters and all of them can be installed to be wheelchair accessible.
